Sometimes politics just goes too far, and this case is simply ridiculous. The Vancouver Canucks are the hottest thing in the city for their first playoff appearance in years, and now the city has banned the phrase of ‘Go Canucks Go.'
On public transit in Vancouver, the message boards strangely read ‘Go Team Go' instead. Reporter Rob Williams reached out to TransLink to find out why, and the provided the laughable reason that Go Canucks Go isn't inclusive.
In the past, the city buses had always used the Canucks team name, as well as other local sports teams. It feels so strange, cowardly, and disassociated to not use the team name, but it seems part of a larger Vancouver city strategy.
It's an absolutely shameless look for Vancouver for both events, and it feels so out of touch for what the people of the city care about - the Canucks. The city and team has to do a whole lot better, or they'll risk alienating their fans significantly.
