High-end Oilers prospect Roby Jarventie is finally expected to be back on the ice and playing after missing all but 2 games last season.
Jarventie suffered a serious knee injury in the 2022-23 season, which became a recurring problem that led to a major surgery. He only played 22 games in 2023-24, before being traded to the Edmonton Oilers.
Oilers' Roby Jarventie expected to be healthy for AHL regular season
The Oilers traded for Jarventie betting that his talent will eventually surpass his injury problems - but it didn't go so well his first season. Jarventie only played 2 games with the Oilers AHL team before being ruled out for the season.
Oilers have high hopes for Roby Jarventie after trade and signing
The Oilers clearly believe in Jarventie by trading for him, and convincing him to stay in the organization through his injury rehabs. Thankfully, new reports from Finland suggest that Jarventie is recovering well from a second knee injury and is expected to play this season.
After his brutal injury history so far, a full season of health could be career-altering for Jarventie.
Drafted in the 2nd round by the Senators in 2022, Jarventie is a 22 year old 6'2 left winger with speed and high offensive upside - he's even played 7 NHL games with Ottawa already.
Whenever he's been in the lineup, he's produced at an elite rate in the AHL. In his age 20 season with the Senators AHL team, he scored 30 points in 40 games. Since then he's been near a point per game player, but he's only played 24 games.
Hopefully with a full season in the AHL this year, Jarventie will be able to develop his game and be ready to take the next step into the NHL full time next season.
