The 17-year seasoned veteran has some unfinished business with the NHL as he is quite close to crossing two more milestones to add to his already impressive resume. He currently sits at 1286 games played and holds 992 points which means if he can find himself a new team and play a full season, he will surpass 1300 games played and 1000 points.
Last season, castle attempted to return to the NHL through the Vancouver Canucks as the team expressed interest in signing him. However, during his training sessions in Abbotsford BC the Canucks decided to pass on his services and he remained an unrestricted free agent.
Kessel has played for several NHL organizations over the years including the Boston Bruins, the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Arizona Coyotes and the Vegas Golden Knights.
His last active season in the NHL was in 2022 -2023 where he played for the golden Knights and won the Stanley Cup. Since his role has changed and has become a middle six to bottom six player, he played all 82 games, scored 14 goals with 22 assists for 36 points.
Based on these numbers and based on these milestones that are facing him, there is hope around the league that a team may take a chance on him once again and he can achieve these goals which could cap his career and potentially win another Stanley Cup.
