Frederic came to the Oilers dealing with a high ankle sprain, and wasn't projected to be fully healthy at all this year. In the stretch run of the Cup Final, the Oilers may instead turn to a healthier player.
Edmonton Oilers may consider scratching Trent Frederic for another option
Frederic has often been the 12th forward through the playoffs purely by ice time, but he's particularly struggled in the first two games against Florida.
The Oilers defence is under stress of a heavy Florida forecheck, and the offence is looking for any form of depth scoring possible. Frederic isn't providing much on either front, which could give the Oilers the option to dress
Jeff Skinner or
Troy Stecher.
Especially on the road, 11 forwards and 7 defenceman may be a beneficial lineup for the Oilers. The addition of the ultra-reliable depth defender Stecher gives relief to all 6 other defenceman, and gives more room for McDavid or Draisaitl double shifts.
If the Oilers want to add more scoring and keep a forward, Jeff Skinner has 2 points in 2 playoff games played.
Both Skinner and Stecher are fully healthy and hungry to play, and could be more of a contributor than a clearly-injured Frederic.
After their first loss to the Panthers, the Oilers have a reason to mix up their lineup for a tough road game on Monday.
