The Edmonton Oilers have officially placed Jake Walman on the injured reserve, buying them an extra roster space for the time being.

The move comes as the Oilers are looking to immediately free up space for free agent signing Jack Roslovic, who's expected to join the team within this week. When the rest of the Oilers are healthy, more roster cuts will be needed.

Edmonton Oilers move Jake Walman to IR, after confirming injury setback

The Oilers announced the roster move with Walman today on social media.
Being placed on Injured Reserve instead of LTIR, this gives the Oilers room to call up another player, but doesn't provide any extra cap space relief.
However, placing Walman on IR will rule him out for at least 7 days. Even if it's retroactive to the start of the season, he'll have to miss Saturday's game at least - and potentially more.
This is now seeming to turn into a more serious injury for Walman, who suffered the injury early on in the preseason. He was initially ruled out as day-to-day and expected back for Game 1, but Coach Knoblauch has since confirmed he's suffered a setback.
However, this could also be about adding Roslovic to the active roster. With Walman on IR, the Oilers will be able to active their new signing - but when he and Hyman return, a few more cuts will need to be made.
Hopefully Walman will be able to return to the lineup relatively soon, and the Oilers elite blue line will be reunited for the start of the season.
