Oilers coach explains demotion for Mangiapane during clear trade showcase

Sometimes a coach has to make some decisions outside their control, like elevating Andrew Mangiapane in the lineup for a trade showcase - but Coach Knoblauch didn't like it.
The Oilers scratched Mangiapane earlier this week as reports surfaced of a trade quickly coming together to give the forward a fresh start. Then he was elevated to the second line with Draisaitl against Boston clearly for a trade showcase, but it didn't last long.
Oilers coach Knoblauch explains why he couldn't play Mangiapane on the second line
Mangiapane only lasted three shifts in the top six before Knoblauch made the change to drop him to the 4th line, effectively ending the expected showcase.
After the game, Knoblauch explained that he feels Roslovic is the better fit for the second line to provide offensive support to Draisaitl.
He's clearly right, Roslovic is the better fot for that line - but it went against their original plans that may have been dictated by the GM. Some analysts are calling it one of the most disappointing decisions from Knoblauch in his time with the Oilers.
Of course the Oilers are trying to win games, and trailing early against the Bruins may have changed Knoblauch's thinking.
However, Mangiapane finished the game with just 7:31 of ice time, his lowest of the entire season. That's far from a trade showcase.
Hopefully the Oilers can find a way to quickly move on from Mangiapane, as it's pretty evident the coach doesn't trust him anymore. Getting him moved to another team as soon as possible seems to be the best path forward for the player and the team.
