Oilers broadcasters Jack Michaels and Louie DeBrusk moved up in NHL broadcast ratings

Jack Michaels is from Meadville, USA but has fully embraced the city of Edmonton since arriving in 2010. Michaels had his start calling Oilers games on the radio for 11 years before finally getting the call to TV full-time in 2021, and he's been great since.

Analysts at the Athletic conducted their annual fan-vote measuring the favourite broadcast booths around the NHL, and the Oilers crew has moved up 2 spots to enter the Top 5.

Michaels brings an undeniable passion to his calls that immediately sticks out to any fan tuning in. A true fan of the Oilers who doesn't try to hid his allegiance, Michaels always has a frantic energy to meet the biggest moments of a game.

Especially in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, Michaels' energy is unmatched by any other broadcaster.

This year was the first that Sportsnet allowed Michaels and DeBrusk to call playoff games on television broadcasts, and it was an incredibly popular move among Oilers fans. In the past, fans had actually petitioned Sportsnet to get Michaels on the call.

Given the bump in fan-vote results too, it's possible other teams' fans were impressed with Michaels' calls. It's great to see the talent in Edmonton getting more recognition across the league, and not just on the ice.

Hopefully, the home broadcast crew will be able to stay on even longer through next year's playoff run.
