The Edmonton Oilers are gearing up to take on the Pittsburgh Penguins on home ice tonight, which will see the return of Stuart Skinner and Brett Kulak.
Skinner spoke in an extended interview today about his return to Edmonton, but unfortunately, he doesn't project to be in the net tonight to face his former team.
Edmonton Oilers and Pittsburgh Penguins expected lineups for tonight's game
The Oilers are expected to use their pairings from yesterday's practice, which was an unusual grouping in an 11/7 formation.
Podkolzin and Frederic are the «extra» wingers skating without a centreman. It's an odd-looking decision, especially considering Podkolzin's quality play of late, but Leon Draisaitl could potentially slot into that spot when he returns - signalling a promotion incoming for Trent Frederic.
Otherwise, the usual top line including Nugent-Hopkins will be reunited, and Jack Roslovic will stay centring Savoie and Howard.
Curtis Lazar's 3rd line is actually more like the 4th line. If anything, it seems Knoblauch wanted to keep these three solid lines together while working around Draisaitl's absence.
In addition, today Oilers reporters have confirmed that Tristan Jarry will get the start in net tonight against his former team.
On Pittsburgh's side, Arturs Silovs will get the start in net while Stuart Skinner will backup. Brett Kulak has found himself promoted to the first pair as the Penguins deal with major injuries to their defence.
Pittsburgh's defence is looking weak, which may give the Oilers a chance for a blowout win tonight.
Though he won't be on the ice, Oilers fans will likely give Skinner a warm welcome back tonight.
