Marc-Andre Fleury is still receiving calls for a new NHL contract despite announcing his retirement, but his final decision could come this January.
NHL Insider reveals Marc-Andre Fleury may come out of retirement
Pierre LeBrun of TSN reported that teams are still talking to Fleury hoping he'll come out of retirement, and the process could go on until January of 2026.
The goalie's agent Allan Walsh responded directly to the report on social media, seeming to confirm there is at least some interest.
Fleury has just signed a tryout contract to play a preseason game with the Pittsburgh Penguins and officially retire with the team he began his legendary career with. But teams across the NHL are in need of goaltending, and still believe in Fleury.
Turning 41 years old this November, Fleury's had a legendary career of 1051 games, 3 Stanley Cups, and a Vezina Trophy. He was remarkably consistent through his career, with his save percentage only dropping below .900 in the last 2 years of his career.
Also a famously great person and leader in the locker room, many NHL teams would be interested in having a veteran Fleury as their backup. As a mentor for
Stuart Skinner and potential option to spot starts, the Oilers could be interested in Fleury - plenty of fans would love to see the team add the famed netminder.
If he doesn't return from retirement, Fleury already had a spectacular send-off in his last year and now with the Penguins. He doesn't need to chase another Cup.
