Goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury has held an extravagant retirement party, officially closing the book on his impressive NHL career.
At 40 years old and after 1051 career NHL games, Fleury is clearly ready to wrap up a legendary career and spend time with his family. That hasn't stopped teams from reportedly pursuing Fleury, but it looks like that idea is done.

A group of former teammates and friends came out to celebrate Fleury's retirement in a major party last night. It looked like a great celebration of Fluery and his career.
Of course, Fleury wouldn't be throwing this party now if he wasn't absolutely sure of his retirement. In his final season Fleury essentially played out a farewell tour and now is holding a party - but there was still hope from some teams that he may reverse his decision.
Fleury's agent Alan Walsh revealed earlier this offseason that a number of teams were in contact with the veteran goaltender trying to persuade him to come out of retirement. Oilers analyst Allan Mitchell believed Edmonton was among those teams.
I got called by 5 teams asking if there was any way Marc-Andre Fleury would unretire. He's made it pretty clear for now that he has no intention to play next year. 5 teams calling, and they were prepared to make serious offers on 1 year deals to entice Flower.

If the Oilers were willing to make a serious offer to Fleury, they'll still be seriously looking to upgrade their goaltending position before the start of the regular season. With Flower appearing to make his decision to retire final, the Oilers will have to pursue other avenues.
