Oilers superstar Leon Draisaitl took a personal leave of absence last week, and is now speaking up about the circumstances surrounding it.
Draisaitl returned to Germany on January 17th to visit a family member who is dealing with an illness. He made a surprise return to the lineup on the 22nd, but his trip home is still clearly weighing on him.

Speaking to the media before today's game against the Washington Capitals, Draisaitl commended the Oilers organization for the support behind his leave of absence, but spoke in a very somber tone.
The support was there. Obviously, I needed to be with my family. It puts things into perspective at times of how little this, in here, really matters when it comes to life.

Given Draisaitl's serious and subdued tone, the circumstances of his visit home are still fresh on his mind. There's no information available about whether the family member is okay.
Just a few weeks ago, Draisaitl was fortunate to have his parents and even his grandmother make the trip to Edmonton to celebrate his 1000th point.
It may still be trying times for the Draisaitl family, and all of Oil Country will be sending their sympathies. As Leon himself noted, hardships of life can completely change one's perspective.
Draisaitl didn't play his best game against the Penguins, and it may even take more time for him to get back up to full speed.
Everyone will completely understand, and everyone from the Oilers organization, locker room, and fans will support him through this trying time.
