The Edmonton Oilers have released a statement revealing Leon Draisaitl will be leaving the team temporarily for a family matter.
The Oilers released a very brief statement, explaining that Draisaitl will be heading to Germany to be with his family while someone is dealing with an illness. He will return some time next week.

Leon Draisaitl leaving Oilers to return to Germany for family illness
It's tough for the Oilers to lose Draisaitl at any time, but fans and the organization will be fully understanding during a family crisis. It's devastating news for Draisaitl personally.
Both Draisaitl's parents and even his grandmother recently made the trip from Germany to Edmonton to celebrate his 1000th career NHL point.
Draisaitl's parents went viral for their reaction to him scoring, and the superstar also specifically was thankful for his grandmother making the trip.
My omi is 84, if I'm not mistaken, but she's moving well, she's in good spirits. She's in good shape, and I'm very, very excited to have her here.

Now 30 years old, Draisaitl has evolved into a superb leader for the Edmonton Oilers and one of the best two-way players in the NHL. In 48 games this season, he's putting up another stellar year with 25 goals and 67 points.
There was even some observation recently that Draisaitl was going through a rare slump in his career, but fans know he'll be back to dominating.
