Earlier this week, NHL insider Nick Kypreos reported that the Canucks are leaning toward a major roster change to solve the rift.
Now, Kypreos is reporting that there's only one team that Miller will waive his no move clause for - his former team, the New York Rangers.
Additionally, Insider Elliotte Friedman hinted on the 32 thoughts Podcast that Miller could angle himself off the Canucks in a soft manner. He's not explicitly requesting a trade, but would consider a move to a good situation for him.
Friedman continued to say that the Canucks are more lenient to move Pettersson, given that he's a superstar calibre 26 year old centreman. That's a player that's hard to acquire than someone like Miller.
NHL personality Paul Bissonnette recently revealed that the New York Rangers are very interested in trading for JT Miller, and if other reports line up that he would waive his protection for the Rangers, it could be a match.
Miller is coming off a career year last season, scoring 37 goals and 103 points in 81 games. This season his scoring rate has decreased significantly to 25 points in 27 games, but Miller is still an essential part of the Canucks identity and locker room.
The Canucks are in a tight spot to address their locker room problems, but a trade may be the only path forward. It's simply untenable for a contending team to have to deal with such a significant locker room rift, and the distractions that come with it.
