Game forced to stop when goalie is blinded by sunlight inside arena

In today's game between the Ottawa Senators and Washington Capitals, a rare stoppage in play occurred: blinding sunlight indoors.

Midway through the first period, Senators goaltender Joonas Korpisalo began to get the attention of the referees complaining of blinding light. Sure enough, when the camera focused on Korpisalo, a direct beam of sunlight was right in his eyes, and tracking a puck would be impossible.

The referee came by and immediately recognized the cause for concern from Korpisalo. It seemed that a curtain towards the concourse in the upper levels of the arena hadn't been pulled, and with the game starting at 6:15, the sun happened to be setting right through that window, and into the Senators net.

Hilariously, every player on the ice came by the net to gather and look at the light. Even the referee was just looking upwards towards it before pulling some players back towards the direction of the faceoff circle.

With the highly anticipated solar eclipse rolling through much of Canada and the USA right now, Korpisalo being blinded by the light is hilariously on-topic.

This bizarre and hilarious stoppage in play will surely go down as one of the biggest bloopers of this season!
