Evan Bouchard contract asking price revealed by Oilers insider

The biggest contract the Edmonton Oilers will need to sign this offseason is the extension for defenceman Evan Bouchard, who is reportedly asking for a $10M AAV over 8 years.
According to NHL insider Frank Seravalli, the Oilers pitched an offer earlier this season to Bouchard for 8 years at $8.5M, but are now moving up to his contract ask.

According to a new update from the 2 Mutts Hockey Podcast, Evan Bouchard is reportedly asking for an 8 year deal at a steal of a price for $10M. He's eligible for an offer sheet, but is only interested in signing with Edmonton.
The Oilers should have absolutely no problem locking Bouchard up long term with a $10M salary - in fact, it will be a steal of a deal for Edmonton.
Evan Bouchard has taken a step to solidify himself as an elite two-way player over the last two seasons.
His 149 points in 163 games is incredible production as a defenceman, and his offensive tools are evident to any fan. Bouchard has a weapon of a shot, great passing plays, and an elite ability to read the play with McDavid and Draisaitl.
Edmonton Oilers need to lock up Evan Bouchard long term this offseason
Sure, sometimes he gets caught with a glaring turnover. It's bound to happen as a puck-moving defenceman, but Bouchard has an elite success rate for his passes. His in-zone defence has vastly improved over two years, and maybe most importantly, he raises his game every playoffs.
Some NHL analysts have suggested the Oilers could go through arbitration with Bouchard for a one year deal near $10M. If an 8 year deal is on the table, the Oilers should just take it now - because the price will only be increasing on Bouchard.
The NHL salary cap is set to take a significant jump, and franchise defenceman like Bouchard will always be one of the most expensive assets. The Oilers locking up Bouchard for 8 years at $10M would be an incredible deal now, and could quickly look like a steal with an increasing salary cap. Get it done, Bowman!
