The Edmonton Oilers are reportedly closing in on a 4 year contract to bring back veteran forward Connor Brown.

NHL insider David Pagnotta recently reported the Oilers first priorities to sign have been Trent Frederic, Connor Brown, and Corey Perry. It seems that most of these deals could be announced before July 1.

Oilers closing in on 4 year contract extension for Connor Brown

According to the 2 Mutts Hockey Podcast, Brown is primarily looking for term on his contract and the Oilers are willing to give it, and the salary should come within a range of $1.9M - $2.3M annually.
After spending his last two seasons on 1-year contracts, seeking term over a higher salary makes sense for the 31 year old Connor Brown. Last season he signed with the Oilers on a value contract for only $1M, but proved himself as a great asset to the team this year.
In 82 games this season, Brown scored 13 goals and 30 points with mostly depth minutes. His tenacity and quality defence is an asset on the Oilers penalty kill, and he's also had the ability to move up the lineup and play a forechecker role with McDavid's line.
On top of that, Brown is clearly a beloved figure in the locker room that the Oilers core relies on.
Brown signed a 1 year contract for $4M with the Oilers in 2023-24 season and nearly went the whole year without scoring, and yet, he's still ended up as a fan favourite player.
The offensive success hasn't been as high as hoped, but Brown has always given his best to the Oilers, has accepted a bottom six role, and is a great player for the room - and Oilers fan appreciate that. He did elevate his game in the playoffs too, scoring 5 goals and 9 points in 20 games.
Getting Brown locked up for 4 years with the cap increasing will lock in the quality depth winger at a relatively low number will be a great move for Edmonton.
