Evan Bouchard played the best single game of his career last night against the Washington Capitals and notched 6 points - but he apparently wasn't good enough for Team Canada.
When Team Canada announced their Olympic roster, many fans were stunned to see Evan Bouchard left off the list. The 26 year old Oilers defenceman has become one of the very best offensive defenceman in the NHL and arguably a top 5 player at the position - yet some just focus on increasingly rare defensive mistakes.
Connor McDavid calls out Team Canada for snubbing Evan Bouchard
Bouchard scored a hat trick and 6 points in the Oilers 6-5 win over the Capitals. He factored into every goal, was a constant threat on the ice, and even made a few plays that didn't end up on the scoresheet but greatly influenced the game.
After the historic night for Bouchard, Connor McDavid said that Team Canada management «has been watching» his incredible play of late - like they're kicking themselves for not picking him.
You're putting me in a tough spot there. He's a heckuva player, among a lot of great canadian defenceman. It's a good problem to have, but i'm sure management has been watching.

With Bouchard putting up offensive numbers like these and showing an incredible ability to play with superstar talent, Canada should be regretting their decision to leave him off the roster.
Bouchard matched a record of Bobby Orr in last night's game, and it's not even the first time. Bouchard is also second to only Orr in playoff points per game by a defenceman. When a defenceman is matching multiple Orr records, he's probably pretty good, no?
There's simply too many defenceman on Canada's roster that just can't compare to Bouchard now in his prime. Colton Parayko, Travis Sanheim, and even Drew Doughty clearly are no comparison for Bouchard now.
Last night was the absolute peak of Evan Bouchard. Some fans may degrade him due to early-season defensive errors, but those same fans have seen him elevate his game to the next level in every playoffs.
Not only that, but perhaps Bouchard couldn't have these explosive offensive performances without the freedom to be who he is. Let this guy sling the puck freely, and it'll end up in the other team's net far more often than his.
