Moments ago, the Philadelphia Flyers announced that they've signed one of their most legendary players in franchise history once again, Wayne Simmonds. According to the Flyers release, Simmonds is signing a one-day contract to retire as a Flyer.

Over his 1037 game career, Simmonds played eight seasons with the Flyers in his prime as one of the league's premier power forwards. In his time with the Flyers, Simmonds was a constant threat for 30 goals and 60 points, a legitimate offensive star while also being one of the most feared physical players in the league. Prime Wayne Simmonds was a true NHL unicorn.

Simmonds was from Scarborough, Ontario and had three seasons at the end of his career with his hometown Leafs, but he's always kept Philly in his heart and continually recognized it as his home within the NHL at least. On April 13 this season, the Flyers will honour Simmonds with a home game for his final official return to Philly. It's an incredible gesture for an incredible player and person.
