Hailing from Ontario, Nurse was recognized as a runner-up for the King Clancy Award this year due to his extensive work beyond the rink.
He is actively involved with "Free Play for Kids," an organization that promotes sports inclusivity for marginalized children, providing them with a safe and accessible environment to play in.
Additionally, Nurse collaborates with "Right to Play," an organization that helps children overcome adversity through sports.
He also awards two scholarships through the Darnell Nurse Excellence Scholarship program to deserving students pursuing post-secondary studies.
Throughout the years, only three Oilers players have received the award, namely Kevin Lowe in 1990, Ethan Moreau in 2009, and Andrew Ference in 2014.
Nurse's dedication to his community and his sport make him a valuable asset both on and off the ice.
