Calgary Flames Forward Takes a Low Blow at His Coach After He's Fired
The Calgary Flames have made a surprising move by announcing the dismissal of head coach Darryl Sutter on Monday, just two months before his contract extension was supposed to take effect. Sutter's relationship with players and staff members in the organization has been called into question in recent months, leading to the decision.
Shortly after the news of Sutter's firing, Flames forward Jonathan Huberdeau revealed that he didn't always see eye-to-eye with his former coach.
"It really didn't click between me and Darryl last year," Huberdeau said candidly. "There were a lot of factors. There was a big difference in points between my last two years. And the style of play he wanted to play, it didn't fit my style."
Huberdeau, who signed a $10.5m deal this year, had more than 2x less points than his previous 'prove it for a contract' season, finishing with only 55 points.

Huberdeau also shared his thoughts on how Sutter handled rookie forward Jakob Pelletier following his NHL debut. After the game, Sutter was asked how he thought Pelletier played and responded with, "what number he was again?" Huberdeau found this response to be unacceptable.
"We were all disappointed. Especially for a young kid who comes in and doesn't need that as a young player. He just wants to play well for himself and the team. We were saying, 'That's Darryl,'" Huberdeau said.
This is one way to throw your former coach under the bus!
