Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar Gave an update regarding Mikko Rantanen's injury after his team lost to the Oiler's 6-2. He stated after the hit that Rantanen will be out for evaluation for awhile.

The injury occurred at 16 minutes and eight seconds of the second period when Oilers defenseman Matthias Ekholm laid thunderous hit on Rantanen left the ice it was not seen for the remainder of the game, due to a possible concussion protocol.

There was a penalty called on the play to Ekholm, though the hit seems to be clean an unlikely to face any extra discipline.

This injury will certainly spice up the rivalry between these two teams as there is a possibility of them meeting in the conference final. Losing Rantanen for a long period of time will certainly be a major blow to The Avalanche's offence as as he has played 77 games, scored 40 goals with 62 assists and 102 points and is a + 20.

As for the Oilers, they continue to tune up their roster and play out the remainder of the season looking for consistency on all four lines and their goaltending and awaiting who will be their playoff opponent which is likely the Vegas Golden Knights.

The Oilers will be on the road to face off against their rivals and renew the Battle of Alberta the Calgary Flames. Game time will be 10:00 PM eastern.
