In today's final game of the Young Stars Classic, Oilers camp invitee Nate Corbet fought for the third time in three games.
Once again, Corbet was looking to drop the gloves early. Midway through the first period Corbet grabbed Jets prospect Mark Liwiski behind the play to square off.
Liwiski was able to land one strong punch, but Corbet got the best of him with a few quality blows and some quick uppercuts. The fight ended quickly as the players got tied up and fell to the ice, and the referees stepped in to break it up.
It's the third time that Corbet has fought in the Young Stars Classic, and each time he's fought an opponent much older and more experienced than he is. Mark Liwiski is 23 years old and has begun to play AHL games, and Corbet held in unbelievably for an 18 year old. He also took on Joe Arntsen on the Vancouver Canucks in a heavy tilt with both players landing haymakers.
Nate Corbet is only a training camp invitee, an 18 year old defenceman who played last season with the WHL's Medicine Hat Tigers. In 51 games last season, Corbet only scored 5 points but registered 72 Penalty Minutes. He's clearly trying to make an impression with his physicality and team play in the Young Stars Classic, and potentially convince a scout into taking him in the draft next year.
