Since being promoted to the AHL, Oilers' goalie prospect Connor Ungar has yet to lose a game.
Goalie prospect quickly climbs goalie depth-chart
During all the drama that's been unfolding with Edmonton's goalies this season, prospect Connor Ungar has quietly put up spectacular numbers wherever he's played.
His development has been scary good, advancing four different times, while posting a sub-2.00 GAA on each of his four teams this season, and getting better as the competition grew.
He began 2025-26 in the ECHL, posting a GAA of 1.68, 1.42 and 1.44, on three teams respectively, while averaging a .943 SV%.
And he continues to impress. Since being promoted to Bakersfield and taking Connor Ingram's spot in goal, his record is 3-0-0, with a 1.95 GAA and .941 SV%.
His stats are not flukes, either; they've been consistent wherever he's played.
The 22-year-old was named USPORTS Rookie of the Year for his 2023-24 season with Brock University, where he posted a 20-6-0 record, a .932 SV% and a 2.15 GAA.
He played his five junior years with the Brandon Wheat Kings, Red Deer Rebels and Moose Jaw Warriors, posting a 52-20-2 record, a .917 SV% and a 2.57 GAA.
I don't think it's a stretch to believe that Ungar will play in Edmonton this year. With Pickard continuing to show inconsistencies in goal, Connor is the next obvious choice, especially given the team's cap constraints,
The picture is fairly clear with the undrafted goalie from Calgary. He is currently in year two of a two-year entry level contract with Edmonton, at a cap hit of $860K, and a minors salary of $82.5K.
Expect the Oilers to keep him around for much longer.
