Team Germany released its Olympic team's lineup formation, as posted by Daily Faceoff which shows Leon Draisaitl centering a top-line that includes ex-Oilers Dominik Kahun.
Team Germany mix of NHL and European talent
Good goaltending will often dictate how well a team does in any competition. In Team Germany's case, their success at the Olympics depends largely on how well Philip Grubauer performs, given how few NHLers they have compared to those favoured to place in the medal-rounds.
Of course, Leon Draisaitl will no doubt have a say in the matter. He will centre the top line with ex-Oilers' teammate Dominik Kahun on the right wing and former 2020 first-round pick Lukas Reichel on the left.
For Edmonton fans, you'll note that team-prospect Josh Samaski is slotted as the third-line centre, who is also projected to be on the powerplay unit with his other Oilers-mate, #29.
When you consider some of the talent Team Canada, USA and Sweden brings to Italy, it's easy to overlook team Germany. Yet, they do have some top-end players, who can contribute and make a difference in any given game.
Tim Stützle, Lukas Reichel, Moritz Seider, JJ Peterka, and of course, Draisaitl and Grubauer are all skilled NHLers and will compete for their country.
Having said this, Germany is also realistic about their odds of winning a Gold Medal.
Interesting comments from Draisaitl no doubt, whih perhaps reflect the sentiment of fans and media alike, though 1980's Miracle on Ice comes readily to mind.
At those Olympics, a rag-tag, underdog and amateur US squad won the Gold Medal, surprising the entire hockey-world at the time.
Anything can happen, is the point, making the Olympic tournament a must-watch event.
