The Edmonton Oilers are now putting the final touches on their lineup for opening night, and Coach Knoblauch has revealed their final choices.
Oilers coach Knoblauch clarifies status on Jake Walman and Ike Howard for Game 1
Coach Knoblauch spoke to media after today's practice and provided some clarity on the Oilers roster moves. Ike Howard will be recalled to play tomorrow, and
Alec Regula will enter the lineup to replace the injured Jake Walman.
Judging by the Oilers lineup at practice then, Howard will likely take
Curtis Lazar's place as the 4th line left winger for opening night.
Walman suffered an injury in the preseason that went largely unnoticed, and was initially ruled as day-to-day. Coach Knoblauch previously stated that Walman experienced a setback, and has yet to provide a new estimated return date. There's still no concern that it will be a long term injury.
Although the Oilers will miss Walman in the lineup, there's no worry that this is a serious issue. He should be back in the lineup soon fresh off his 7 year contract extension, and in the meantime, Alec Regula has earned these minutes.
Regardless of any injuries, this elite Oilers team should be able to handle the rebuilding Calgary Flames in a season-opening battle of Alberta.
The puck will drop on the Oilers regular season tomorrow night at 8:00 in Edmonton. Hockey is finally back!
