Oilers should nab KHL free agent goalie close to signing with Calgary Flames

The Edmonton Oilers are currently scouring the hockey world in pursuit of a tru upgrade next season, and they may have the chance to steal a quality candidate away from the Flames.
The Oilers are looking for stability after the inconsistency from Skinner and Pickard, so a proven NHL starter would be best. The problem is, no elite goalies are readily available - the Oilers have to find a diamond in the rough.
Edmonton Oilers may have chance to steal KHL goaltender signing with Calgary Flames
According to new reports from KHL news sources, the Calgary Flames are listed as the top team vying to sign 26 year old goaltender Ivan Prosvetov. The Russian goalie has terminated his KHL contract, and is seeking a return to the NHL.
Both sides agreed on Tuesday to terminate that contract after just one year, opening the door for Prosvetov to return to the NHL. Sport-Express hockey reporter Mikhail Zislis shared the latest scoop on Prosvetov earlier this week, noting that the Flames are the «main contender» to secure Prosvetov's services for the 2025-26 season.

Prosvetov was actually selected by the Arizona Coyotes in the 4th round of the 2018 Draft. He played his first NHL games with the Coyotes at 22 years old, then bounced between the AHL until he was claimed on waivers by the Colorado Avalanche.
After 32 more games in the Avalanche system, Prosvetov left to play last season with CSKA Moscow, and produced great results - a .920 save percentage in 38 games.
His stock has rebounded enough for the Flames to give him a job, presumably as a backup for Dustin Wolf. The Edmonton Oilers could perhaps offer him a better opportunity on a contending team, and potentially up to a tandem role.
If the Oilers can nab Prosvetov as a low-risk bet for next season, he's still got more upside than most veteran free agent options. The Oilers need to get creative with their goaltending, and Prosvetov may be a consideration.
