Edmonton Oilers forward Kasperi Kapanen has opened his thoughts and feelings on how his career has been going over the past several weeks and months after he joined the Edmonton Oilers.
He has been a pivotal piece over the past several weeks as key plays and key moments have rose his level of his game and his stature with the team.
Kapanen explains he is having the time of his life
The best days of my life right now. I knew that this could potentially be my last chance. I was very grateful that they took an opportunity with me. - Kasperi Kapanen
The 28-year-old right winger who was originally drafted in 2014 by the Pittsburgh Penguins began his career with the Toronto Maple Leafs back in 2015. After spending several seasons with the Leafs, he then played for the Pittsburgh Penguins and the St Louis Blues.
The Oilers plucked the Finn off waivers from the St. Louis Blues in November. That club had originally grabbed him from the same list of castoffs from the Pittsburgh Penguins in February 2023, less than a year into a contract that paid him US$3.2 million annually. - Joshua Clipperton
He had signed a one-year deal with the Blues for $1 million and $1,000,000 cap hit and with his current play during these playoffs, there's a strong possibility the Oilers may re sign him this summer.
Oilers may lose Kapanen to other teams for improved play
The Oilers have many decisions to make over the course of this summer as the team currently has $12 million in cap space this summer, but they have several important contracts to sign including
Evan Bouchard who is pegged make over 10 million per season.
Many NHL teams will be looking at Kapanen as his career has been revitalized with the Oilers and could fetch him a better contract with teams looking to get to the cap floor or improving their offence as Kapanen's trademark is his speed.
Despite this, the Oilers are enjoying his play and what he is bringing to the table in these playoffs and Stanley Cup Finals.
Oilers fans will have to wait and see what the future holds for Kapanen and the organization but in the meantime, Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals will begin on June 6th and game time will be at 8:00 PM Eastern.
