Last night’s Oilers game against the San Jose Sharks looked like it was going to be a stinker, until they came storming back for a great comeback win.

In the last few seasons, the Oilers forged an identity for being a comeback team that was never out of a game - a trend that fell apart earlier this year. Now in the last few weeks, the Oilers have found another gear, and are the comeback kids once again.

Kasperi Kapanen drops hard quote on Edmonton Oilers comeback win

Speaking to the media after the game, Kasperi Kapanen put the official stamp on the Oilers’ comeback abilities returning. He rightly declared that these Oilers are absolutely never out of a game. Kapanen even repeated the late Bruce McCurdy’s phrase, ‘Never In Doubt’.
Never in doubt. Didn’t start the way we wanted to, and that’s hockey sometimes. We knew we had to make a push in the third, and this team is always in it. That’s a good example right there.

It’s not exactly encouraging that the Oilers came out flat on home ice in an important divisional game. Their process still does need to improve as a whole, but part of their process is having the most elite players able to dominate games in the most critical moments.
Led by their star players and fantastic performances in the third period by McDavid, Draisaitl, Bouchard, and capped off by Hyman - the Oilers showed that their talent always keeps them in a game.
With these players on the ice, they’re the most elite 6v5 team in the NHL. Coach Knoblauch seemed to know that, as he made the bold move of pulling the goalie with 4 minutes remaining.
Coach Knoblauch didn’t love the overall process of the game, but even he conceded - good teams just find ways to win. The Oilers talent has the ability to completely take over games.
The Oilers’ comeback abilities are making a comeback themselves, and it finally led to the team’s first 3 game win streak of the season. Hopefully, they can keep this up.
