Following a solid start to the season - in which Matt Savoie has not only demonstrated his ability keep pace with the top players, but make a difference with his speed and talent - has commanded the attention of analysts around the league.

Rookie has impact on score-sheet and team win

Granted, though Savoie's talent may not as yet have translated into goals, it's the little things he does that contribute to the team's overall game plan, as in his face-off win in a crucial moment of the game against the Senators, allowing Jake Walman to take the shot that beat Linus Ullmark to win the game.
«Yeah, 100%. I think my game is in a really good spot right now," Savoie said during an interview. "I've been working all summer, I've been working all camp to get to this spot, and I feel like I can be a contributor now.»

He is indeed contributing, using his speed and puck-handling skills to move the puck up-ice, advancing the rush, and back-checking with intensity - all the right things.
In an Oilersnation Everyday podcast, Louie DeBrusk comments on why he's impressed with Matt's game and style of play.
"The other things he's doing, he's doing excellent...excellent on the PK using his speed, using his smarts to kill penalties...He's doing all the things a coach loves to see from a young player to allow him to stay in the lineup."

In fact, Connor Bedard, one of the NHL's most-skilled young talents, Connor Bedard, felt compelled to share his thoughts about the Oilers' talented rookie.
«He's unreal. He's one of the fastest guys I've ever seen. He can think at such a high level that it's really cool to see.»
