The Edmonton Oilers have been linked to signing NHL veteran Jonathan Toews, and they could be competing with three other teams for his services.
All three teams are Stanley Cup Contending teams in need of a bottom six centerman, and a three time champion like Toews would be a great fit. The Winnipeg Jets have the added allure of being Toews' hometown team.
Should the Edmonton Oilers sign Jonathan Toews?
Despite not being named by the Hockey News, the Edmonton Oilers are an obvious fit for Toews. They're a cup contending team as well, and also headed by his former General Manager Stan Bowman.
He was never known as a high-end scorer, but Toews recorded 15 goals and 31 points in 53 games in his last season in 2022-23. He played an elite two way game, and was an asset on special teams and faceoffs, all of which would be useful in Edmonton.
If Toews would accept a league minimum contract and a bottom six role on a cup contender, the Oilers would have room for him. Playing with
Connor McDavid too has to have some draw for any hockey player.
Hopefully Toews can find his footing in the NHL again and make a Comeback after missing two full seasons - it would be a fantastic story.
