Oilers coach Knoblauch provides update on McDavid injury at practice

At Oilers practice today, head coach Kris Knoblauch provided a brief update on the McDavid injury, only confirming that he will remain day-to-day.

Along with the announcement of McDavid's injury yesterday, the team recalled forward Dylan Holloway from AHL's Condors. With the Oilers not playing to clinch a playoff spot and some ice time available for a younger player down the stretch, it's hard to find a reason for McDavid to play tonight's game. To be in the best condition possible for playoffs, it's undoubtedly best that McDavid rests this injury fully before returning to the lineup.



According to Daniel Nugent-Bowman, it's sounding more and more unlikely that McDavid will play. Judging by Knoblauch's comments there doesn't seem to be much of a concern that this is a major injury, so rest is clearly the best option. Without McDavid in the lineup, the likes will certainly look much different against Vegas tonight.


Some fans online have pinpointed two plays in particular in the final minutes of the game against Calgary. In both plays, McDavid seems to have possibly tweaked or felt something in his midsection after taking some awkward falls. In the earlier play, McDavid took an odd fall to the ice and stayed down for a few moments before getting up.



It's certainly not the best news to hear McDavid is nursing a minor injury, but if there's any time to do so, it's before the playoffs. The Oilers play a tough schedule of games in the last two weeks, including 5 games in 7 days, and it's very likely the Oilers would've rested him anyway. Hopefully McDavid can heal up, and return at least one more game to record his 100th assist this year.
