Oilers coach Knoblauch's family directly helps team in double overtime
The Edmonton Oilers may need to get seasons tickets and travel tickets for Knoblauch's family to sit rink-side from now on.
According to a new interview with Knoblauch, his family had plans on travelling to Dallas to watch game 1 but were held up somehow. The family was able to just get in after the first overtime, and came to meet Knoblauch in the room after their travel trek. It must've been good luck, because the Oilers won in double overtime on the first shift.
»I was just really excited to see them. I wasn't expecting to come see them, I knew they were coming to the rink, I didn't know if they were gonna get in, whatever. But we came off the first overtime period, they were right there at ice level, and I got to see them and give them a hug. They must've been good luck, cause we scored shortly after that.»
-Kris Knoblauch
Maybe seeing his family after the first overtime helped Knoblauch to find some energy to inspire the team in between periods. At the very least, it seems like the Knoblauch family may be a good omen for the team.
It's incredible to hear this personal side of Knoblauch as well, who has always come off as a bit quiet and guarded in his conversations with media. There's nothing like family to bring out true emotion from a man, and Knoblauch definitely felt a boost from their presence on the road.
