The Edmonton Oilers and Jake Walman's camp are reputedly at odds with the annual salary on a potential contract extension.

Insiders have reported the Oilers have been heavily interested in signing Walman to a long-term contract, and it appears the interest is mutual. But there may be a current impasse with the AAV.

Edmonton Oilers and Jake Walman reportedly at odds with salary demand

According to a new update from NHL insider Frank Seravalli on OilersNow, the hold up in getting this contract extension done before the regular season has been the salary.
My understanding is that this has been an ongoing conversation between the Oilers and Walman's camp. I believe the Oilers' interest is in trying to sign Walman to a long-term deal, potentially as long as seven or eight years. I think there's been some disagreement with the cap rising as to what Wallman's AAV would be.»

Walman's under contract for the upcoming season at a bargain cap hit of $3.4M, but he'll be due for a massive raise on his next contract. He's taking a step to be a top 4 defender on a contending team as the NHL salary cap is skyrocketing.
Since he joined the Oilers last season at the trade deadline, Walman has been a perfect fit on the blueline. He's a strong 200 foot player with the versatility to play his off side, and still has plenty of his prime left at 29 years old.
Hopefully the Oilers can come to a compromise with Walman in the weeks ahead, and get him locked up as a key piece for the team's future.

Do you think the Oilers should pay up to $7M per year to keep Walman?
