The Edmonton Oilers have been known to be slow starters in previous seasons, and now NHL analysts have proven it statistically.
The Oilers have shown some promising signs early this year, but still have yet to meet the expectations for a cup contending team. However, it still probably isn't anything to worry about yet.
NHL analyst statistically proves Oilers are a team that starts the season slowly
According to a recent article from Daily Faceoff, a deep dive into the numbers shows the Oilers have started the last 4 seasons below a 90-point pace. After the first 20 games though, the Oilers pick up to being an elite team.
If the Oilers could ever avoid this trend of starting poorly, they'd give themselves a much better chance later in the season to secure home ice advantage in the playoffs - and also to avoid general panic around the team.
"I talk to you guys every September about the need for a good start & it seems like we've kind of struggled with that the last couple of years. That's where our focus is at, making sure our group is ready.»

The Oilers haven't been great to start the season, but the results haven't been horrible so far. Even though the Captain may plead with his team to be better, the middling start just seems like a trend with them.
Hopefully the Oilers pick it up quickly, and hit their stride to ascend the standings soon.
