Former Oiler fan favourite set to hit free agency may return to Edmonton, says insider

Former Oilers forward Klim Kostin is likely to hit free agency this summer, and Oilers insider Bob Stauffer is hinting a return to Edmonton could be in the cards.
Kostin was a fan favourite with the Oilers as a dominating physical player who was able to score career highs in Edmonton. Not only that, but Kostin fully embraced the city of Edmonton, and
has even returned to watch playoff games. He'd definitely like a reunion.
Klim Kostin may be set for reunion with Edmonton Oilers this offseason
On a recent edition of Oilers Now with Bob Stauffer, the insider directly lobbied for the team to bring back Kostin as a free agent this year.
I'd bring Klim Kostin back tomorrow and play him as 4th line left wing, okay? There's a guy who had double digit goals in Edmonton, liked playing in Edmonton, and would fight anybody.
- Bob Stauffer
Unfortunately, Kostin just never found his stride with the San Jose Sharks. With only 7 points in 35 games played and a healthy scratch plenty of times, the Sharks are very unlikely to meet his qualifying offer of $2M as an RFA.
He should then hit free agency, and isn't worth more than a $1M deal anymore - a salary that can be buried in the AHL if needed.
When he was with the Edmonton Oilers, Kostin just seemed to catch lightning in a bottle. He played a career-high 57 games, scoring 11 goals and 21 points, and became a beloved player for his physical edge and clutch scoring. He was a beast in the playoffs, too.
He seems like the kind of player the Oilers want in their new bottom six, could come on a cheap contract, and clearly loves Edmonton. Klim Kostin is almost a no-brainer to sign with the Oilers this offseason.
