Expected salary for Jake Walman revealed after reported dispute with Oilers

The Edmonton Oilers have been working to finalize a contract for Jake Walman before training camp, and now more reports of the deal are surfacing.
My understanding is that this has been an ongoing conversation between the Oilers and Walman's camp. I believe the Oilers' interest is in trying to sign Walman to a long-term deal, potentially as long as seven or eight years. I think there's been some disagreement with the cap rising as to what Wallman's AAV would be.»

With the regular season now less than a week away though, there will be motivation from both sides to finally complete this contract.
Oilers insider reveals expected salary for Jake Walman contract extension
According to a new update from Oilers insider Jim Matheson, Walman's salary cap hit is expected to be near $6M on the new deal - likely for 6 years or more.
With the rapidly rising salary cap, locking in Jake Walman to a long-term deal anywhere in the $6M range could turn out to be an excellent deal for Edmonton.
If they sign him to an 8 year contract, he might slow down by the time he's 37 years old - but the team will eat that cost to keep his annual cap hit lower.
Now 29 years old, Walman has just begun to emerge as a true top 4 defenceman. He's capable of making slick passes and offensive plays while fulfilling his job in the defensive zone. At 6'1 and 218 pounds, he can be a great physical presence too.
Ever since he was dealt to the Oilers at the trade deadline last season, Walman's been a great fit on Edmonton's blue line. It's great they're close to re-signing him, and keeping their elite defence core together.
