Evander Kane’s trade price rapidly falling, NHL insider reports

Insider Elliotte Friedman recently revealed what he believes it would take to acquire Evander Kane from the Canucks.
Kane's career takes a hit in Vancouver
If you're a fan of Evander Kane, it's truly difficult to watch his career decline so rapidly, a career in which he was a regular offensive contributor wherever he played.
When he arrived in Edmonton in 2021-22, under some off-ice controversy, Kane had an immediate impact when he finally did hit the ice with his new team.
Kane signed a four-year, $5.125M AAV contract with the Oilers. He scored 22G and 17A over 43 regular-season games in 2021-22 and tied MacKinnon for most goals in that season's playoffs with 13G.
Then on June 25, 2025 he was traded to the Vancouver Canucks for a fourth-round draft pick, largely as a salary dump, given his high-value at the time.
Following what has been a disappointing season with Vancouver, Kane's worth has diminished considerably, and again because of his $5.125M cap hit, the pending free-agent's value on the market is at an all-time low.
And even lower if Vancouver doesn't retain a portion of his salary. Sources suggest a 3rd-rounder is fair if 50% of is retained, though I believe it will take a fourth or fifth-rounder to get him.
Vancouver isn't too keen on re-signing Kane and so will likely take whatever offer is made.
In a recent article, it was reported that Dallas has some interest in Kane. The injury-depleted Stars have a need for a top-six winger.
Kane is a proven playoff-producer and on a team like Dallas can have an impact, given the hard-nosed style they play.
The report went on to say that a fifth or sixth-round draft pick is a fair asking price for Evander.
At this point in his career, getting another chance to participate in the post-season is considered a win for Kane.
