Evander Kane breaks incredible record set by Wayne Gretzky
When thinking about current Edmonton Oilers breaking the lauded franchise records of Wayne Gretzky, Evander Kane isn't the first candidate that comes to mind. However, with his performance last night, Evander Kane became the fastest player to score five hat tricks with the Oilers, officially passing Gretzky's record.
Last night also marked Kane's 10th hat trick of his career, an incredibly impressive milestone in itself.
It's incredibly encouraging to see this performance from Kane, who's now been consistently elevated back to the second line since going through a major slump recently. Through this season Kane's been dealing with a number of minor nagging injuries that have clearly affected his game, and yet he's still played through the pain and found a way to be effective for the team - especially when they needed to climb out of their early season hole.
Now on a new-look second line with Corey Perry on the right wing, maybe Kane can dial up his offensive game once again. When he's playing at his full potential as an explosive power forward with the ability to score, Kane is an integral piece to the team and their success, especially in the playoffs.
