For years, the Edmonton Oilers have been thought of as an emerging threat to be a consistent contender for the Stanley Cup. This kind of lends fans and media to perceive the Oilers as a younger team, but surpassingly according to CapFriendly, the Oilers are the oldest team in the league.
This is surprising to hear considering the Oilers are known to be driven by their younger superstars in McDavid and Draisaitl, who are only 27 and 28 years old respectively. However, some of their older forwards like Corey Perry at 38 and Derek Ryan at 37 are certainly pulling up their average significantly.
It's somewhat undesirable to rank higher in the age bracket across the NHL, but considering the Oilers vets pulling up their average and recently looking to acquire playoff experience, it's not the worst thing for the team to be the oldest. Hopefully their experience does translate into some consistently good playoff performances.
