Edmonton Oilers reveal lineup at practice with top pair defenceman absent

Ekholm was recently shut down for a stretch of 6 games due to an illness and minor injury, but with this absence at practice, it could suggest he's still dealing with an issue.

Along with Ekholm, Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl were once again held out while dealing with their injuries, both of which have a tentative one week timeline.

With these absences, the Oilers lineup remained mostly the same as last game's win over the Seattle Kraken, but with Evander Kane filling in as a placeholder for Ekholm on defence - a good sign that the big Swedish defenceman will be able to play.

The one big change will be Kasperi Kapanen moving up to the top six, with Corey Perry getting bumped down to the 4th line. For foot speed a youth, it's an obvious line change.

Interestingly, Troy Stecher still remains in the lineup over Ty Emberson, who has begun to struggle as of late. Stecher is a more veteran option, and come playoff time, may have more trust from Coach Knoblauch for bottom pair minutes.

The Oilers had a great effort last time out against the Seattle Kraken, getting a win that gave some much needed momentum and confidence to the depth and supporting cast of the team.

In the rest of McDavid and Draisaitl's absence, Edmonton needs to keep honing their team game, maybe as perfect preparation for playoffs.
