The Edmonton Oilers are back in preseason action tonight with a home game against the Winnipeg Jets, and the team has revealed their lineup.
After
Connor McDavid and
Leon Draisaitl had their preseason debut in the last game, the superstars and most of the top NHLers won't be playing tonight. Once again, the team will be looking for fringe players to prove themselves.
Oilers insiders reveal tonight's lineup for preseason game vs Winnipeg Jets
According to insider Bob Stauffer at practice, the Oilers' lineup is as follows:
Of the Oilers forward group, only 4 players played full time NHL roles last season. The rest of the rookie-heavy lineup will be looking to prove they belong at the highest level.
Matthew Savoie receiving the first line assignment with two NHLers in Henrique and Mangipane is a promising sign for him to make the roster - same as
Isaac Howard playing with Tomasek and Kapanen.
Interestingly, Mattias Janmark has been bumped down to play with two fringe players. The entire bottom 6 aside from Janmark are young players who will likely be headed to the AHL. It may not be a good sign for Janmark's future with the team.
On defence, only
Alec Regula will be battling for a roster spot in preseason, but he will also likely start in the AHL.
With only 4 more games remaining in the Oilers' preseason, the team is getting down to crunch time for roster decisions. Every game is crucial for management to make their calls before opening night.
