In their latest episode of OilersNation Everyday, host Tyler Yaremchuk revealed an offer sheet proposal that the Oilers should consider by sending an offer sheet to Blues goaltender Joel Hofer.
This proposal is on the heels after the Edmonton Oilers lost game six in the Stanley Cup finals with goaltending as one of their main question marks going into the offseason.
Offer sheet revenge for the Oilers with Hofer?
Yaremchuk's idea certainly has merit as the Oilers will be looking for a new answer in net as Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard clearly, were not the answer for the finals.
The notion of sending a two-year deal worth $4.69 million to Hofer might be enticing for the 24-year-old netminder as he is looking for more starts and to become a starting goaltender as he is currently behind Jordan Binnington.
If this offer sheet were to go through and the Blues did not match find, this would be a sweet revenge for the Oilers as last offseason proved to be a disaster as the Oilers lost two promising young players in Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg to the Blues after Doug Armstrong sent two offer sheets their way.
This past season has been a rollercoaster for the Blues as the team was at the bottom of the standings and managed to fire their coach and bring in Jim Montgomery who dramatically turned things around and put the Blues back into a playoff spot.
Oilers need to be creative this offseason to make deals
The Oilers will need to be creative this offseason as the team is low on draft capital and need to make several decisions on certain players including Evan Bouchard, Corey Perry and several other unrestricted free agents.
The defining argument that will be alongside Connor McDavid's contract will be the question in goaltending and whether the Oilers can get it right and find a starting goaltender that will give them a deep playoff run and not hesitate to put him in net despite any losses.
