It's been 24 hours since the Oilers lost in game six of the Stanley Cup finals where Oilers insider Bob Stauffer has shed light on a new detail in Connor McDavid's next contract with the Oilers.

Stauffer believes that the Oilers will be able to retain McDavid for the foreseeable future, but he feels that the eight-year guarantee may not be in the cards for McDavid especially with his agent's track record.

McDavid may look at a shorter-term deal with next contract

Stauffer gave his explanation for McDavid's new contract expectations in a recent interview on TSN radio.
Judd Moldaver was down in Florida, he was with Oilers people. I would look at his track record, he's got Auston Matthews, and Matthews has signed a 5-year deal.

I'm fairly confident that Connor will look to sign an extension in Edmonton, but there's no guarantee it'll be an 8-year deal. It might be.

I don't think it's a slam dunk that it's an 8-year deal, and I wouldn't overreact if it was only a 4- or 5-year deal. 99%, I'd say 99% chance something gets done. - Bob Stauffer

There has been much debate on how long McDavid would want to remain with the Oilers whether it's through the eight years like his best friend and teammate Leon dry seidel had decided at 14,000,000 per season.
Could McDavid take a shorter-term deal around four to five years with a higher cap hit but shorter term that would make him the highest paid player in the NHL again?
This question will continue to wrangle with the Oilers faithful and many pundits around the league as McDavid will become one on the top stories going forward in the next year or two.

McDavid angry after Game 6 loss compared to last year's disappointment

After the game had completed and McDavid emerged with the media, many notice a sharper and different tone of pure anger on how the game transpired and the performances that were on display with himself and the rest of the team.
Many have wondered if going back-to-back losses in the Stanley Cup finals would change his mind with retaining himself to the Oilers long term and it remains to be seen on whether it will make a difference or not.
Oilers fans will have to sit back and wait and see what happens after July 1st as he will be eligible to sign an extension that would kick in 2026 -2027.
