Edmonton Oilers top defenseman Mattias Ekholm attempted to make his comeback to the lineup which quickly ended abruptly as he left the ice after a few shifts.

The Oilers are playing the San Jose Sharks and the Oilers top defenseman felt that he was ready to come back to the lineup and during the first power play he left the ice, walked down the tunnel and was not seen again.

Ekholm has been away for several weeks due to injury

The 34-year-old defenseman has been out of the lineup since March 26th after he reported an undisclosed injury. The team has kept quiet to what was causing his ailment, but it seems that no matter the case, Ekholm was not comfortable enough to continue.
In addition to Ekholm leaving with injury, the Edmonton Oilers also lost Zach Hyman to injury tonight.
This season has been a down year for Ekholm as he has sustained a few injuries. He has played 64 games, scoring nine goals with 24 assists for 33 points and is a + 11 with 30 penalty minutes.
This compared to last year where he played 79 games scoring 11 goals with 45 points and was a + 44. The team has been dealing with a rash of injuries over the past couple of weeks which included Connor McDavid who returned last game and have three assists.

Other Oilers returning from injury as team prepares for Round 1

Other players have returned to the Oilers lineup including goaltender Stuart Skinner who was out with a concussion after sustaining it against the Dallas Stars a few weeks ago. He was backing up goaltender Calvin Pickard who has been the number one goalie in the interim.
Many hope that the Oilers who are bringing back their wounded are doing so as they are with full health. It wouldn't be wise to bring them back just for the sake of playing hockey when they're still undergoing treatment or simply not ready.
The Oilers have three games remaining in their schedule which includes a rematch with the sharks, the Los Angeles Kings and the Winnipeg Jets.
