NHL insider links Edmonton Oilers to signing forward Andrew Mangiapane in free agency
According to insider David Pagnotta, the Edmonton Oilers are one of the interested teams in signing former Calgary Flames forward Andrew Mangiapane.
The 29 year old forward played last season with the Washington Captials, and scored just 14 goals and 28 points. Prior to joining the Capitals, Oilers fans will know Mangiapane from his 7 seasons with the Calgary Flames.
Mangiapane is a smaller winger at 5'10, but plays a tenacious game on the forecheck, and has shown some decent finishing skill in the past. His best season came with the 2021-22 Flames, scoring a career high 35 goals.
Oilers looking to add a winger to replace several departing players
If Mangiapane can come in at a cheaper price to play third line minutes, it could be a good fit to add speed to the bottom six.
Hopefully the Oilers can find the best bargain fit this offseason after whiffing on their free agent signings last offseason. In another cup contending season, they need every player to provide positive value.
