During a recent interview with Sportsnet's Colby Armstrong, Oilers forward Corey Perry had his NHL plans answered by his family who were present during the interview.
Armstrong asked his son whether his father should continue to play in the NHL to which his family said one more year.
Perry turning back the clock this playoff with great play
These playoffs along with this season have been outstanding for Corey Perry as he appears to have turned back the clock and has given the Oilers great performances and production considering he is 39 years old.
In the series against the Los Angeles Kings and now against the Vegas Golden Knights, Perry has been playing with
Connor McDavid and
Leon Draisaitl on power plate one and has given good offense especially around the net.
He spoke about the great compliment that Draisaitl gave him but also mentioned that it takes a certain mentality to play with those superstars as you must anticipate how they play which makes everything worked together.
Through 10 games, he has scored 5 goals with 2 assists for seven points and is a + 6 along with his season of 81 games played, scoring 19 goals with 11 assists for 30 points and a + 12 with only 11 minutes and 56 seconds of average ice time.
Perry's future remains a mystery for the Oilers
Despite the interview, it's unknown what his future is in the NHL as he is closing in on 40 years old.
It will also depend on how the Oilers finish their season as Perry has had numerous Stanley Cup finals on his resume including his Stanley Cup victory in 2007 with the Anaheim Ducks.
If the Oilers go all the way one could speculate that he may retire from the game as a Stanley Cup winner or he may go one more year as his family suggested.
It's likely with the Oilers as it's clear he has embraced his role with the team and his teammates enjoy playing with him and the leadership he brings to the dressing room.
Perry has certainly changed his ways after being disgraced out of the Chicago Blackhawks organization and has turned himself around quickly and is enjoying the game of hockey again.
Game 5 will take place at T-Mobile Arena on May 14th and game time will be at 9:30 PM eastern.
