The Edmonton Oilers lost their chance for revenge on the St Louis Blues after the organization made an announcement of the signing of goaltender Joel Hofer.

Hofer signed a two-year deal worth $3.4 million per season and was rumored as a potential candidate for an offer sheet which many felt the Oilers should have sent his way.

Oilers fans were hoping for an offer sheet against the Blues

Many Oilers fans felt that the team should send an offer sheet Hofer's way as Blues general manager Doug Armstrong did last summer forcing the Oilers not to match both Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg's offers.
Both players had great seasons with their new team which will leave many Oilers fans disappointed.
Goaltending has become a major talking point around the Oilers as both Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard did not help carry the team to the finals and ended up losing in six games to the Florida Panthers.
Hofer played 31 games as backup to Jordan Binnington and had a goal against of 2.65 and a save percentage of .904 with a 16-8-3 record.

Another goalie move occurred during NHL draft

Many rumors have swirled around the Oilers in terms of goaltending change and the most prominent rumor was Anaheim Ducks goaltender John Gibson willing to come to the Oilers at the NHL trade deadline.
That dream as well has been crushed as Gibson was moved earlier today from the Ducks to the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for Petr Mrazek and two draft picks.
With the goaltender market extremely thin and teams unlikely to make trades, Oilers general manager Stan Bowman may find it extremely difficult to upgrade that position as many players are simply not available or the cost is too high.
Oilers fans will need to wait and see who will be between the pipes next year with either the tandem of Skinner and Pickard or another player altogether.
