Avalanche starting goalie struggles spell bad news for playoff hopes

As we look ahead at the playoff matchups of the future, it's crazy that there's only one confirmed matchup this late in the season. Most teams only have 2 games to play still, but with competition being so close there are still so many different ways the playoffs could look.

The only confirmed matchup so far is between Colorado and Winnipeg, with today's matinee game as a playoff series preview. It has been a crazy game, with the Jets dropping a touchdown of goals on the Avalanche as their once-elite goalie continues to have a terrible season.

Georgiev has had an absolute disappointment of a season, sitting on a .898 save percentage following his .919 season last year. He has been the goalie that the Avalanche have heavily leaned on all season, playing 62 games now in back to back seasons.

With giving up 4 today against the Jets, Georgiev has given up 4 or more goals in an astounding 40% of all his starts. He has a terrible 3.00 GAA, which on a team like Colorado is just not acceptable. Colorado has had many injuries on their blue line this season which has been a huge contributor, compounded by the fact that the Avalanche also don't have a NHL-caliber backup.

If the Avalanche can't figure out their goaltending issues they may be in for a short postseason, as they've now dropped all 3 games this season against the jets. They haven't given up less than 4 goals in a game against the Jets this season, so they'll need a goaltending miracle if they can't outscore their issues.
