Legendary Bruins announcer calling it a career

Any Boston Bruins fan, or perhaps hockey fan in general, will recognize the voice of longtime Bruins announcer Jack Edwards. Now 67 years old, his career dates back to the early 1980s, and he's been the voice of the Bruins since 2005.

As the Bruins prepare for yet another Stanley Cup Playoff run, the legendary broadcaster has announced his retirement plans after the 2023-24 season.


Edwards called the memorable 2011 Stanley Cup-winning Bruins team, where they infamously knocked off the Vancouver Canucks in seven games. His gradual speech issues have become more apparent in recent years despite the commentator being unsure why his performance has slowed. He has sought out speech therapy since.


Edwards is an Illinois native, though he now resides in Connecticut. Since he began calling Bruins games, he has been synonymous with the Bruins and New England Sports Network (NESN).

He will enter retirement and hand the reigns over to someone else for the 2024-25 season and beyond.
