Flyers make blockbuster trade to acquire top defensive prospect
Moments ago, the Philadelphia Flyers announced that they've pulled off a blockbuster trade, acquiring defenceman Jamie Drysdale from the Anaheim Ducks and a draft pick in exchange for Cutter Gauthier.
In Drysdale, the Flyers acquire the 2020 6th overall pick and one of the top defensive prospect across the league, one that has great offensive talent from the back-end and has already played top minutes in the NHL at just 21 years old. The Ducks are trading from their position of need, so they may be showing some belief in their other young defenceman, Pavel Mintyukov.
For Anaheim, they acquire the fifth overall pick in the 2022 draft in Cutter Gauthier, a very highly ranked prospect in his own right. He's coming off an impressive world juniors performance with team USA. According to several sources, Gauthier wasn't willing to sign with the Flyers at all, necessitating Philly to make the trade.
It's a massive and unexpected trade out of nowhere, and right now, we won't know who won this trade for years to come.
